Biting men in sport

Liverpool striker, Luiz Suarez may be known for his infamous biting skills in the football pitch but there have been other sports men he seemed to have followed their footsteps. You remember the undisputed champion of biters. The Iron Mike Tyson met Evander Holyfield in a rematch for the WBA heavyweight championship in June 1997, in what would turn out to be the most infamous fight in history. Tyson became infuriated early in the fight by what he believed were deliberate head-butts from the champion.
“I just wanted to kill him,” Tyson revealed in his recent autobiography I read. “I was furious, I was an undisciplined soldier and I lost my composure. So I bit him in the ear.”
he piece of ear was found in the ring but was unable to be reattached. Tyson was disqualified, fined $3 million and banned for life - though he got the ban overturned.

JAMES GRAHAM (Rugby League)
Bulldogs prop James Graham pleaded his innocence but how else to explain Billy Slater’s bloodied ear and the subsequent tooth marks following a clinch with Englishman in the 2012 grand final? As in the Suarez case the video tells the story. During the judiciary hearing the defence suggested “perhaps sharp teeth came into contact with (Slater’s ear) without an actual bite”. The defence told Graham to tell his story walking and was given a 12-game suspension to think about his actions.
DYLAN HARTLEY (Rugby Union)
England hooker Dylan Hartley is a serial offender when it comes to sickening on-field acts with his rap sheet including eye-gouging, referee abuse and yes, you guessed it … biting.
The Northampton and England rake had already served a six-month ban for gouging when he was judged to have bitten Ireland flanker Stephen Ferris in the 2012 Six Nations.
Hartley received an eight-week ban for biting the finger of Ferris and was back in the news the following year when he was sent-off in the Aviva Premiership final for calling referee Wayne Barnes a “fxxxing cheat”.
PETER FILANDIA (AFL)
Standing at just 168cm, Essendon and Sydney Swans goal sneak Peter Filandia was best known through his AFL career for his diminutive stature. Peter Filandia went where few men have on the sporting field. But he’ll forever be remembered as the guy who bit an opponent’s scrotum shortly after his AFL career had finished.
Filandia joined VFL side Port Melbourne as its captain-coach following the end of his career with the Swans, which wound up in 2000.
Then, playing against Springvale early in the 2002 season, Filandia had the ultimate brain snap, biting the scrotum of Chad Davis when the pair became tangled up on the ground. Filandia was suspended for 10 matches after pleading guilty at the tribunal, despite his reasoning that he had “panicked” and bit David as a “reflex action” because his face was smothered and he couldn’t breathe.
Filandia said he had no idea which part of Davis’s body he was biting at the time.
Springvale’s club doctor said Davis had suffered bruising to his scrotum and lost a small amount of blood as a result of Filandia’s bite.

 SHAHID AFRIDI (Cricket)
Cricket isn’t a contact sport, of course, so Shahid got his kicks where he could. He bit the ball instead. The Pakistan star’s bizarre moment came against Australia at the WACA in a one-dayer, with Afridi leading his team. He was caught a couple of times biting the ball in order to make it swing. “I shouldn’t have done it. It just happened. I was trying to help my bowlers and win a match, one match,” he said. He was banned for two Twenty20 games.
TOMMY RAUDONIKIS (Rugby League)
The ultimate footy larrikan recently relived his role as the ‘Phantom Biter’ who chomped on Johnny Gibbs’s nose during a NSWRL match. “I got fined by the NSWRL but Geoff Prenter, the editor of Rugby League Week, paid it for me. I would get life if I did that these days. I did bite him on the nose. He got four stitches on one side and three on the other. I did a pretty good job of it. I was concussed at the time ... so I tell everyone. He was lucky I did not bite it off.”
FRANCISCO GALLARDO (Football)

Gallardo was pretty pumped up when his Sevilla FC teammate Jose Antonio Reyes scored a goal during a match in 2001. So he flopped on top of him and bit him on the penis. The Royal Spanish Football Association declared the act a violation of “sporting dignity and decorum” when fining and banning Gallardo. But he retorted: “I am sure I didn’t offend anyone. I don’t think what I did was very noteworthy.”

 WAYNE ‘TREE’ ROLLINS (Basketball)
“Tree Bites Man”. The sensational headline followed the most famous bite in NBA history, when the Atlanta Hawks player instigated a brawl by elbowing the Boston Celtics’ Danny Ainge in the head. The two wrestled on the floor and Rollins bit down on Ainge’s finger so hard he needed stitches.

 SUNLINE (Racing)
Biting is not just a trait restricted to human sporting stars. Over the years many equine versions have left their mark with their love of human flesh. Perhaps one of the best exponents was champion Kiwi mare Sunline. The arrogant, yet amazingly gifted horse with an infectious personality, loved to bite and trainer Trevor McKee and full-time handler Claire Bird kept the Band-Aid company in business throughout her amazing career on the turf.

Comedienne Helen Paul inks mouth-watering Globacom deal

Leading comedienne and multiple award winning entertainer, Helen Paul, has joined the league of respected ambassadors of telecommunications giant, Globacom, this I can authoritatively report.
She signed the mouth-watering endorsement deal worth several millions of naira in May, but it was officially made public earlier this week.
Helen, who is famously known as Tatafo on radio, also signed an endorsement deal with GOtv, a cable television station owned by Multichoice, the same month.

Bayo Adetu, Helen Paul’s publicist, confirmed that Paul signed the two endorsement deals, but declined to give further details.

“Yes, Helen Paul is now a Globacom ambassador and she is extremely happy about it, just as anybody in her shoes would be. Glo is a massive brand everybody loves to be associated with,” Adetu hinted.
Helen Paul is a comedienne, singer, actress, dancer, compere, playwright, and journalist. Perhaps best known as a stand-up entertainer and popularly known as Tatafo. Her style is quirky and spontaneous; and coupled with her petite stature and a voice range that makes you guess she is less than 10 years of age, she holds her audience spellbound anytime she performs. Helen Paul is a graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Lagos.

She currently co-hosts M-Net Africa Magic’s “JARA”, a programme that provides fans and viewers generally with inside scoops of Nollywood.
She currently anchors two radio programmes; Tatafo Gist on Naija FM and Comedy Drive Time with Tatafo on Metro FM every Fridays and Mondays, respectively

Apapa Fuel Depot Inferno

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has said a truck loader died in the fire outbreak at a depot in Dockyard, Apapa, Lagos in the early hours of today. Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye, information officer, NEMA, South-West, the fire broke out when products were being loaded into a truck. ``I have confirmed the incident and I was told that the fire outbreak at Aiteo occurred between 1 am and 3 am. ``The fire occurred in the process of loading a product at the depot into a truck and killed one truck loader,’’ he said. Farinloye said the Lagos State Fire Service and its federal counterpart worked together to put out the fire. Mr. Rasak Fadipe, director, Lagos State Fire Service, also confirmed the incident to NAN, saying a distress call was received at the office minutes before 1 am. He said that fighting vehicles from Sari-Iganmu and Ilupeju were deployed to the scene. ``When we got to the depot, the fire had already engulfed a truck loaded with petroleum products, but we joined hands to put out the fire by 3 a.m. ``A motor truck boy of about 30 years of age was trapped in the fire,’’ he said. Fadipe urged depot owners to be more careful during the harmattan. ``The state has a vibrant fire service system that responds to calls promptly, and we urge anybody who observes any fire outbreak to alert us on 767 and 112 toll free,’’ he said. When contacted, Mr. Tunde Akinpelu, vice-chairman of Aiteo Energy, said he could not speak on the issue.

Suarez... the tiny tiger

It's the habit of Luis Suarez to go about sinking his teeth on people any time he got into a short fuse or frustrated or even hungry, Winks! Biting the Uruguay striker Chiellini just before they scored their winning goal wouldn't be the first time the Liverpool forward was found guilty. He has bitten Chelsea's Ivanovic and PSV Otman Bakkal while at Ajax in 2010.  I'd suggest FIFA make him wear a gum shield during matches. He's a fine player. What do you think?

Finally! Tuface opens up on dad’s cancer

Cancer is one ugly disease that doesn't know how to stop until it eats up vital organs in the body. I know how it can be with one having cancer of anywhere in the body. My heart goes to leading entertainer Tuface Idibia who has finally opened up on the cancer that recently hit his dear father. According to his word in an interview with showbizplus ''my dad is fine and there is really no problem. He was diagnosed early and he has started the required treatment. He will be fine. It is just one of those things. The family will get through this.''

fresh death at alaba int'l market

the corpse
Wonder shall never end! A body of a young girl was found died yesterday morning, inside a small canal bridge at Alaba International market. Eye witness said that the body was dumped inside the canal bridge before some traders decided to bring it out this morning for easy evacuation and also for any possible identification. I learnt that she must have been killed somewhere else before the killer or killers decided to dump her at the canal bridge. As at the time of this report, the body still lies there, almost decomposing. May God save us oh!

Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony Finalize Divorce Almost Three Years After Split

It is three years (and two relationships) since Jennifer Lopez and ex-husband Marc Anthony split, the couple finally finalized their divorce on Monday, June 16, TMZ report. Anthony, 45, initially filed for divorce from the “First Love” singer, 44, in April 2012 after they separated in July 2011. The couple has remained friends since, co-parenting their 6-year-old twins Emme and Max.
Lopez quickly moved on in the romance department with backup dancer Casper Smart, but split from him after two-and-a-half years of dating earlier this month. Anthony dated British Topshop heiress Chloe Green for a year before parting ways in February 2014. According to TMZ, the “Jenny From the Block” singer gets primary custody of the twins, who will spend seven days a month with Anthony. When the kids are with their father, the nannies must be present.
The former couple also agreed to use their “best efforts” to keep their twins out of the spotlight and away from photographers. Neither ex has to pay or will receive spousal or child support. This is good news for Anthony, who was recently ordered to pay ex-wife Dayanara Torres $26,800 per month in child support for his two sons, Christian and Ryan.
Since her split from Smart, Lopez stayed more omnipresent than ever thanks to a highly-publicized performance at the World Cup opener in Brazil and the heavily-promoted release of her eighth studio album A.K.A.

Kim Kardashian Under Fire for Piercing North West's Ears

Yesterday, Kanye West asserted that his new bride Kim Kardashian is extremely important to the Internet. At the time, he was talking about how the couple spent four days of their honeymoon Photo shopping the now-most-liked Instagram photo of their wedding kiss. In that case, it seems like the Internet was on their self-proclaimed most-important subject's side. In the case of Nori's ears, however, they may have turned. When Kim and Kanye took North to a children's museum in New York to celebrate her first birthday, eagle-eyed observers noted some glittering new diamonds in Nori's ears. Twitter erupted with criticism of Kimye's decision.
Some Twitter users noted that infants get their ears pierced in many cultures, but that didn't assuage another issue: That a 1-year-old is wearing diamond studs. what is your opinion on this?

SPAIN'S NEW KING FELIPE HAS BEEN SWORN IN BY PARLIAMENT TODAY

Spain's new king, Felipe VI, has been sworn in as the country's head of state in parliament at about (GMT 09:41)

The new King has been proclaimed and has received the royal sash from his father, Juan Carlos, in a ceremony at the Zarzuela Palace near Madrid after promising to uphold the constitution in a speech.

He acceded to the throne at the stroke of midnight after his father, Juan Carlos formally abdicated on Wednesday.

The ceremony took a form of a proclamation rather than a coronation because of the pressing economic situation in Spain. The abdication was the first royal transition in Spain since democracy was restored.

FELIPE EMERGES NEW KING OF SPAIN AS FATHER ABDICATES

Felipe VI of Spain has acceded to the throne, following the abdication of his father Juan Carlos.

The retiring king helped introduce democracy after the death of dictator Gen Franco in 1975, but recently his reputation has been damaged by scandal.

At midnight yesterday, he handed over to his son, who will formally swear an oath in parliament later on Thursday.

I learnt that the ceremonies will be kept low key, at a time when many in Spain are suffering economic hardship.

The ceremony will take the form of a proclamation rather than a coronation. It will be the first royal transition in Spain since democracy was restored.

The new king will be proclaimed after promising to uphold the constitution and giving a speech to parliament.

He and his wife Letizia will then be driven through Madrid's streets before appearing on the front balcony of the Royal Palace
I also learnt that the new king will face a series of tough challenges if he is to restore the reputation of the monarchy.

Although Juan Carlos won plaudits for his role in restoring democracy, his image suffered when he went on the luxurious African elephant-hunting safari in the midst of a recession.

His reputation suffered further damage because of tax fraud allegations made against his daughter, Cristina, who is reported not to have been invited to the succession party.

At the same time many Spaniards are demanding a referendum on whether to have a monarchy at all - a demonstration is scheduled to take place in central Madrid on the same day as the enthronement, despite a ban imposed by authorities.

Felipe will face the dual challenge of trying to rehabilitate the monarchy and trying to unify a country in which a vocal minority favour republicanism.

The succession has been endorsed by both of Spain's main political parties.
